Privacy
StocksVisualized uses limited, first-party analytics to understand whether the site is useful and to distinguish real product use from automated traffic. We designed this collection to avoid identifying individual people.
What we collect
- An anonymous session identifier. A random identifier is kept in
sessionStorage, which normally lasts only for the current browser tab or session. It is not connected to a name, email address, or account. - Coarse location and device information. Our hosting platform derives an approximate country and region and broad browser/device type while handling a request. The analytics database does not store the visitor’s raw IP address.
- Acquisition information. We keep the referring site’s hostname—not its
full URL—and the
utm_sourceandutm_campaignlabels on the landing URL. - Product usage. We record the page or surface rendered, selected ticker symbols, metric and view mode, comparison size, a ten-second engagement signal, and use of features such as table and share controls.
- Automation signals. We use limited browser and request signals to classify likely automated visits separately from human-looking browser sessions.
A failed ticker search may increment a no-result counter, but we do not collect the text that was typed. We also do not collect chart values, portfolio information, share-card titles, or other free-form text.
Why we collect it
We use these measurements to understand visits and engagement, improve popular charts and features, diagnose reliability problems, and keep scanners and bots from being mistaken for people using the product.
Retention and sharing
Anonymous session and aggregate analytics are retained on a rolling basis for up to 180 days and then deleted. Cloudflare and Vercel necessarily process network requests to deliver and protect the site and may keep operational or security logs under their own policies. We do not sell analytics data or share it for advertising.
Your choice
The first-party product collector honors Global Privacy Control (GPC) and the browser’s Do Not Track (DNT) setting. If either signal is enabled when a page loads, the collector sends no events and removes its anonymous session identifier. Essential network processing used to serve and secure the site still occurs. Blocking JavaScript also prevents the product collector from running.
